Our flight left Portland about 11:20, I sat between the two girls on the plane...remind me to never do that again. It keeps them from fighting with each other, but doesn't keep my patience level down. We got thru it and landed in Denver, that is where we were supposed to have a 2 hour layover....that was increased to 3 hours. Fine, we were in the airport so the kids could run around and work off some energy before getting on the next flight home.
Our 4:20 flight finally boarded at 5:50ish...and then we sat on the plane for over 2 hours before we were able to take off. I wouldn't normally care but with 2 kids, you just try to keep them occupied and quiet for as long as possible! Steve was forced to sit between them this time, we got out all the candy we had, got the DVD player out....we pulled out all the stops and they weren't TOO bad! Piper had a small fit but then fell asleep so that helped!
I guess the reason for the delay(s) were because there microbursts and bad weather, and then they had to direct everyone (at least 15 planes) to the east runway....we all got there and that runway was closed?! How does that happen? Is there no communication?? Then we got the okay to take off and the airport had lost our flight plan, so they had to 'refile' it and then finally at 7:30 we took off, once in the air the whole plane cheered! HA!
We didn't get into DSM until 10:30, waited for our luggage, stopped at McD's on the way home for a very late dinner and then got home, settled in and finally about 1 in the morning we were able to lay down for bed. I felt sorry for the girls but they really were troopers and we all slept in until 1 pm Sunday afternoon!!!!!
Since half our day was spent sleeping, we got up, did laundry, went to the grocery store, Presley played with the neighbors, Piper was super whiny and grouchy and then basically the day was over! Piper did go to bed early but Presley was NOT tired....she finally laid in bed with me and watched TV until she fell asleep about 12:30. UGH! None of us were ready to get back to the real world on Monday morning, we slept a little late, I went to work a little late.....you know, to EASE our way into Monday.
Overall the kids did amazing over these two weeks. We had our moments, there were timeouts and tears and spankings (yes, we spank, get over it) but they got to experience a lot, see some cool things and have fun with family. I hope they had a good time and will remember and enjoy these family reunions the way I do!
