Weekend O'fun!

After our week of sickness the weekend was welcomed! Piper still didn't feel good after last weekend so my mom watched her on Monday (thank goodness for Grandmas who don't work Monday's!) and took her to the doctor....double ear infection and tonsillitis. My poor baby girl.
Tuesday night Presley said she was tired. This NEVER happens. She didn't eat dinner....this was unusual also. Wednesday morning I knew she didn't feel good and so I just worked from home in the morning and kept her home with me. However, I didn't feel good either! I made her a doc appt for the afternoon and planned on asking the doc to look at my throat too. P had a temp of 102 and swollen glands. She put both of us on antibiotics and we spent the rest of the night just lounging.

Saturday morning was the last soccer game.....she went and wasn't happy about it. She 'practiced' for a bit and then refused to participate for the rest of the game, as she has done all season. However, she did get a trophy that she is very proud of! I might just burn it since she didn't earn it.

Once Steve and Piper got home from her soccer game we headed over to our friend Jared and Lisa's to watch the Iowa game. The kids played, we hung out and talked and watched the 'game', if you want to call it that! UGH! We got home from their house about 3 and chilled, Steve was going to watch the Cubs game with neighbor Jason and the kids and I wanted to do something....so did Sam and Boston! So we made a last minute decision to head out to Center Grove Orchard for a couple hours!

Boston and Presley, LOVE playing with each other!
Piper went down the slide with me....my first time down this slide!

Samantha and Boston did the apple slingshot which was pretty cool!

Presley and Boston were not as willing to pose for pictures as Miss Piper was.

After we left the orchard we were all starving, so we headed to Sportspage in Ankeny....for a sports bar we thought it might be busy with Cubs fans....NOPE! So it was fast and the kids ate and were good! Thanks Samantha and Boston for going with us!

Sunday morning the girls slept in until 8:30 and then we just hung out, picked up, laundry, the usual weekend crap. Steve made a Costco trip and us girls headed to paint pottery with Holly and Mary! The girls were very excited and did pretty good!

We were there for 1.5 hours and it was a success. We will pick up our stuff next Sunday and we will definitely be going back to do it again! After that we headed home, the girls played, I cleaned out the car and did some more cleaning. Steve was helping Jared trim his basement and once he got home I headed on a solo Target trip!!! We decided to do dinner out at Applebees and then got ice scream at Sonic on the way home to complete a good weekend! The laundry isn't done, the house is still a mess, the dishwasher needs to be emptied but oh well, it's nice having free weekends and getting to do unplanned fun stuff with the kids.

Free weekend!

Wednesday Piper had her doc appt in the morning and then I asked to work from home in the afternoon, way easier than driving downtown for the rest of the day. It was nice and quiet, working from home is definietly not something I could do every day! Talk about boring! It was nice on this day b/c I was able to pick Piper up from daycare, we made a quick trip to Target before going to gymnastics and meeting Steve and Presley.

Thurday we had a small girls night for pumpkin beer at Rock Bottom, I had to miss my annual girls night with friend Nicky due to gymnastics but was able to get 6 girls together for a couple hours to chat and eat and enjoy some pumpkin beers! It was a lot of fun! Hoping we can plan another night like this soon!
That night Steve told me that Piper wasn't feeling good. UGH and she slept like crap that night too. We decided that I would work from home that morning until she woke up and see how she was doing at that time. Finally a little before 9, she woke up and fever was 102. She took some meds, chilled on the couch and I successfully kept her busy enough to NOT bother me until about 11:15. Then I just took the afternoon off to chill with her. We watched movies, she took a nap, I read my book!

That night we just chilled, the girls played with a lot of Piper's birthday toys, which I think Presley is enjoying more than Piper (it's a good thing that Piper is a good sharer!)

Saturday Piper's sleeping was NOT good again. Spending most of the night whining, moaning, crying....Steve ended up sleeping with her. We missed soccer in the morning (oh darn!) and we literally did nothing at home all day! It was pretty nice. Pretty lazy, but pretty nice. Piper took a nap about the time that Presley and I left for her swim lessons and then we ordered pizza for dinner! Steve went to watch the Cubs game and the girls and I made some popcorn watched some of Toy Story 3 and then went to sleep.

Unfortunately Piper's sleep was just as crappy again. Steve slept with her part of the night and then I sleep with her (though not much sleep actually happens since she whines about every 15 minutes all night long...so annoying).

Finally this girl lost her 3rd tooth! (It's been loose since she lost her last tooth about 6 weeks ago!) It was so obnoxious! It was hanging half way out of her mouth, yellow b/c she wouldn't brush it, it was just gross....thankfully it just fell out and we didn't have to torture her by pulling another one against her wishes!

We were going to head to Center Grove but since Piper wasn't feeling good we decided to not waste our time and money. We went to the Iowa Orchards which was way closer and free! There isn't nearly the amount of things to do but it was perfect for our situation and afternoon!
Presley 7 years ago! :)
 back to this year.....

 Jumping into the corn pit!
She said 'Mommy, take a picture of me tubing!' HA!
This picture is so her personality!
 That sweet smile.
Then my baby girl who is starting to look so grown up!

Piper started to come down off her meds about 4, temperature spiked back up and it was too late to try to get her to nap! :(  So our free weekend is now over with one sick kid and another missing tooth!

Piper - 4 yr stats

Our monster had her 4 year doc appointment this morning. She is completely average! :)
39 inches tall = 46%
35.3 lbs = 53%

She always looks smaller than the kids in her class, but we have to remember that most of them are turning 5 this year and will be going to kindergarten next year! The doctor was very impressed with her and how much she knows. Physically she could do things that 5 years sometimes can't (hop on one foot kind of stuff) but she can pedal bikes, jump, hop on one foot, push herself onto the doc's table! ha!). The doctor said she is advanced when it comes to her speech and what she knows at the age of 4 that some kids don't know until kindergarten. Piper was writing all of our names and alphabet while we were waiting for the doc to come into the room and she was impressed that she COULD do it and that it was as neat as it was for a 4 yr old!

So we have ourselves a genius! HA! Totally kidding! We are happy that she is doing well and hopefully that continues! :)

On a side note....the office visit print out we rec'd does have her smoking status as NEVER SMOKER....phew!!!

Random

- I hate politics. Hate. I don't vote, I haven't voted and I don't see myself voting any time soon.  I hate the arguing and debating between everyone all the time. I purposely don't watch the debates, why would I subject myself to that stress and irritation...and then everyone on Facebook talks about the debates the whole night! Annoying!! So ready for it to be over b/c no matter who is President everyone is just going to continue complaining anyways! #nooneiseverhappy

-  I am loving the rain right now! Steve is out watching the Cubs game, the girls are sleeping and I'm sitting here blogging, drinking wine and watching whatever I want on TV....and pretty soon I'm going to bed and will be reading in bed enjoying the peace and quiet! Love it!

- My good friend Sarah and my sister Sam had/are having a baby! This is great b/c I totally get my baby fix without having a baby! I SO, SO miss that sweet sleeping, cuddley baby phase so much, the cuteness...the innocence! LOVE IT! I was watching videos from when the girls were little....three plus years ago. I literally had tears running down my face b/c you just forget those times! I miss them being little but love the people they are becoming! Always my babies!

- I don't think I have many talents but....I think if they had a knuckle/neck/back/finger/toe cracking contest, that I would totally win. Bring it on!

Piper - 4 years old

Our baby is turning 4 years old! Really? Because most days she acts like she is 20 years old. Oh my second child, you have given us a run for our money! After wishing our 2nd child would be more outgoing, you have definitely fulfilled that position. You are smart and SO funny!  You have no concept that other people might be watching, unless you get hurt, then you get embarrassed. Your smile, oh my, that smile will get you anything you want! You bring smiles to the faces of others who are near you with your free-spirit and expressions.

You are stubborn, especially when you are tired which seems quite often these days since you have decided that you don't need to take naps in your new preschool room. You walk around Generation Next like you own the place, you say hi to all your old teachers and it seems all the teachers and students seem to know you too!

You occasionally tell me you want to be a baby b/c you want your pacifier (which you haven't had since November of last year). You do still wear a diaper to bed, but honestly we haven't done much to try to get you out of the nighttime diaper either.....maybe now that you are 4 we will give it a go?

You call things the wrong names and it is so cute.....Starburst you call Star Wars. Whiskers you call scouts?! The remote control you call the cartoon or commercial. I love the innocence!

You.....
- can pose for a picture like a pro! You learned from your sister!
- will always give your Uncle Scott a hug.
- know all your upper and lower case letters and can write your full name. You are doing SO good at sounding out what letters different words start with and love writing.
- can count to 39. You know your months and days of the week.
- wear a size 4T/5T but mainly you get ALL your sisters hand me downs! You wear a size 9 shoe.
- love coloring and take your time and stay in the lines almost as good as your sister!
- will admit when you are tired at night time and rarely (almost never) take a nap on the weekends.
- are bossy! Or we'll just say that you like to be a leader!
- are sensative. You tell us when your feelings get hurt. You get nervous when we are mad and/or are yelling.
- like playing on the ipad, mostly Youtube videos of people playing with playdoh?!. You don't like any cartoons but like already like real movies (Mrs. Doubtfire, Peewee's Big Adventure, Chipmunks, Alexander and the horrible....day, Annie).
- love sleep as much as me, daddy and Presley do. Since it has been dark in the morning, you insist that we should just all go back to bed! We agree 100%.

Happy, happy birthday my sweet, funny, smart, sassy, amazing, beautiful baby girl! We love you more than you can ever know!!

1 year

2 years

4 years old! The smile...oh my GOODNESS, THE SMILE!!!!

She wanted chips and salsa for dinner...my child for sure!
We got home and she opened her presents from us!

A piggie emoji pillow which she fell asleep on tonight and Pop the Pig game, which she was a little afraid to play b/c she thought it would scare her! :)

I wish this picture was better but they were posing, where do they get this stuff!! Love it!

Presley Pie

I haven't had alot to say about Presley in the last couple weeks...she doesn't really like me to take her picture unless she is in the exact perfect mood for it and I think she is tyring to hide her teeth from us. The top on is still SO loose, I'm not even sure how it is still hanging in her mouth!
I was anxious to see her 2nd grade pictures since we had such an issue with her cheerleading with her mouth shut and her not eating for 2 days after her last tooth issue that we really didn't know if she was going to open her mouth! She did and she showed off her teeth! My sweet girl!
I signed her up for more swim lessons over the next 6 weeks, she doesn't really complain much about it so I'm using it to my advantage to keep her interested and learning to swim over the next 9 months before summer starts again! She will learn to swim!

She actually did VERY good in this class! She is probably the oldest but she did exactly what was expected of her and she is just so much more comfortable in the water than she was back in May! Hopefully I can get them both signed up for lessons this winter!

Today we got up and went to get family pictures taken! Can't wait to see them! And then we just hung out at home, cleaning after the party, opening the toys and just taking it easy. Steve did take Piper to Walmart to see if she wanted to spend any of the money she got for her birthday but she couldn't find anything she really wanted but Skittles and a Paw Patrol bracelet! Really???

Pig Party!

Our Piper didn't want Mickey Mouse, Hello Kitty or a princess party...she wanted a pig party! Not Peppa Pig, but just pigs. Done! We went all out and made it the most piggy party we could! Her soccer game got cancelled for the morning (thank you!!), Steve got up early after the concert to start smoking meat and we spent the day cleaning and getting ready for the party!
I got crafty (thank you pinterest) and we made some pigs to hang from the ceiling.
The perfect pig balloon!
I hung up pictures of her with pigs from the fair and Adventureland (don't mind the pumpkins)
Steve smoked pulled pork and brisket, we made pigs in a blanet, corn dip, mac and cheese and 3 different types of bacon (regular, jalapeno and candied!)

Our neighbor Sarah had her baby almost 3 weeks ago and we are such bad neighbors that we hadn't made it over to see them yet! I felt so bad but we have been busy and they have been sick so we finally got to meet baby Cohen at the party! Piper loved holding him!
We had family and a couple neighbor friends over for the party and she seemed to have alot of fun!

Pig cookies!
Her friend Elaina who used to go to daycare with her, lives in the neighborhood and is on Piper's soccer team! They played SO good together!

She got very nervous when we sang happy birthday and made Presley blow out the candles for her!
I love this picture of Piper looking to Preley for comfort! So often it's the other way around with these two!

Overall we had a great party, lots of family and friends and we were very lucky to have such awesome weather for an October birthday! Happy birthday my sweet girl!
